THE GREAT YEAR OF 2010

2010 has been an extraordinary year that I’ll never forget. When thinking back of 2010, there are main memory’s that I’ll always remember which are the cultural festival, dancing, and the ICT upgrade. Dancing with Miss Bellingall has been an amassing experience and I would like to thank Miss Bellingall for giving up her lunch times to show us new dances. I’ve really enjoyed performing them at the end of team assembly’s; it has given me more confidence to perform things in front of lots of people. Dancing has been an experience of a lifetime that I’ll always remember. Another highlight for the year of 2010 would definitely have to be the cultural festival. Every day after lunch, Everybody (students of took school) got stuck in and practiced every day without fail all thanks to Mrs Bismarck and Miss Bellingall, without them, this event wouldn’t be possible. All of our hard work paid off and the end result was great. The last successful highlight that took place in 2010 would have to be the ICT upgrade. The best part about the upgrade for me would have to be the fact that we got the chance to create and run our own blogs to show the whole world all of our work and pictures too. I think that all of the tokomaru students were very happy with the great upgrade. The year of 2010 was a great last year with many great memories that I will hold on to forever.

THE CUTURAL FESTIVAL

There I was standing in the wings of the stage with over 1000 butterflies in my stomach. My heart was beating faster and faster, so fast I thought I was going to explode! Mixed emotions and feelings were were going through my head as my knees and hands were shaking like an earthquake. The curtains started to rise, the minute they rose, I knew that I needed to put my nerves aside and just have fun but those same thoughts were going through my head , I couldn’t help being nervous, there was so many people sitting in all of the seats! As each dance passed on, it was getting closer and closser to my dance. My heart was racing so fast, faster than it has ever beaten before. Feeling the heat or the stage lights, drips of sweat ran down my face. Before I knew it, I could hear Grace saying “and finally the lions danced the Tango which was elegant and bold.” This was my last chance to shine. The spotlight, brighter than the sun itself, was pointed directly at me and my dance partner as we prowled up and down the stage like we owned it. OH NO! The dip was about to happen in a few seconds, the only thoughts that were racing through my head was please don’t drop me please don’t drop me. Everything was going to plan but now it was time to dance around the stage in a circle. All I was thinking and hoping at that point was that he wouldn’t stand on my feet. After all of that worrying everything went perfect just the way the Tango should be!

The week that was

Last week for reading I read an article about how to make chalk. Once we read the article, our group had to write a recipe for making chalk using the information from the story.
For 2 days of the week room 6 learnt about first aid with Carmen (who happens to be a fire fighter) . she said that during our 2 sections for this week we might learn how to make realistic cuts on each other and how to fix the cuts.

We also are learning about “Kia Kaha” which means be strong. When we were learning about Kia Kaha, we were learning about what bullying is and how to stand up for ourselves.

On Friday I had to go to my braces dentist to get my braces tightened and to get the colours changed, I go there to get them tightened and to change the colours  once every 2nd month. I decided to get the colours of bright green and yellow because they are nice and bright .
And that was my week.

This week at school I went to technology. our first class was cooking and we made vegetable pie. Our next class after lunch was science and we experimented with two types of metal , when we put the first metal over the Bunsen burner it went bright red, then when we put the second type of metal it light on fire as soon as we put it on the flame. after all of that experimenting we finished the lesson off by making hokey poky over the Bunsen burner. And that was what happened on Tuesday.

my fractions report

Fractions are part of a whole shape, object ect. In every fraction there is the denominator (the bottom number) and the numerator (the top number). The denominator indicates how many pieces are in the whole shape, objects etc and the numerator indicates how many pieces are taken away.
There are many different types of fractions such as mixed fractions, top heavy fractions and normal fractions. Mixed fractions are fractions like 2 and a half which is basically 2 wholes and a half of a whole. Another type I mentioned was a “top heavy” fraction which is when the numerator is bigger than the denominator e.g.  6/4 and 9/1  . The last type is the normal fraction which is fractions like3/4 and 1/4  which are easy to learn

Another thing you need to know when learning about fractions is to know how to add them together, you may think that it sounds hard but really it’s simple and easy to learn.  If it is 2/3+ 1/3 it would equal 3/3 because the denominator stays the same because both numbers are the same (3&3) so that only means that you need to add the numerators together.

There is 1 special rule that you need to know for fractions is that “ the bigger the number, the smaller the fraction( or pieces). And that is all you need to know about fractions.

My Faiy tale

Once Upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a beautiful young princess; however, she was troubled for her evil which of a mother locked her up in the highest room of the tallest tower waiting for her true love to arrive.
After months past by the princess was still waiting for her prince charming to arrive, then, that very night, the princess was looking out at the moon and stars above, then, suddenly, she saw a shooting star so she wished for her prince( the love of her life) to arrive.
The next morning , a prince bashed right through the door so the princess greeted him by saying ,“ my wish has come true, I have been waiting for this day to arrive, now, come over here and give me my true loves first kiss”, No, wait, we must save this precious moment  for our romantic wedding to come”, replied the Prince.
Then, suddenly, a filthy dog came running through the door, he was covered in black ashes from the dragon, the princess reacted by saying, I mean shouting” what is that filthy mutt doing in my castle, get him out at once!” demanded the princess “but honey, sugar, sweet pea, he is my magical dog, he must stay please!” explained the prince” if you must!” shouted the princess and they all went to the princes home all as a happy family.
After months past by, the happy couple were getting very close indeed, close enough to get married they decided to plan a wedding. As for the princes dog, he was getting very jealous indeed for the prince was giving all of his attention to the princess rather than giving it to him, he had  put up with it long enough so he decided to do something about it.
While the close couple went out on a romantic dinner, he decided to put his magical powers to the test. His first plan he had in mind was to destroy the princesses wedding dress, but first he needed to go to the toilet. Once he came back inside, he got to work. He’d made the mess of a burglar, there were pieces of the dress all over the floor but that wasn’t the worst of his problems, he had left muddy footprints all over the dress as well as the carpet! He needed to cover it up somehow but he was too late because the happy couple were already home so he dragged the dress under the bed, that was his only choice.
The minute the princess walked through the door, she shouted “oh no, a burglar has broken into the house, wait a second, there are muddy paw prints all over the carpet that lead too something under the bed... my wedding dress is ripped to shreds! bring me that dog at once, “shouted the fuming princess, it was at that point the dog guiltily walked into the room and put on his scary face” oh what a cute wittle face, I’ll except your apology but don’t let it happen again you cute little munchkin”, explained the princess admirably but the dog wasn’t going for cute he was wanting to scare her but his plan was not successful and it never will be. He figured out that if he helped her, then maybe, just maybe they will give him more attention.
He decided to do a brilliant thing and fix her wedding dress, so the helpful dog asked the princess how she would like her wedding dress to look , the princess said “ oh thank-you so much, I  would like a pearl white dress with crystals  all over it! And I would like you to be the brides dog, you can chose what you want to ware,” so the helpful dog made all of her wishes come true. The happy couple got married with the dog of course as the flower dog. From that point on, they all lived happily ever after as a happy family.

Grampey Mike

My grandad is the best grandad you will ever meet, I guarantee. With his great, black glasses and his smokey blue eyes, he could tell a thousand stories. He has silver, grey hair as silver and shiny as the full moon at night and as bald as an egg with a grey beard to match. He is quite a short and stubby person but he does not let that ever get in his way.
Grandad has a bad back but he had an operation to fix that, he now has walking stick but that never stops him from laughing and being his own happy self. He has a huge laugh that wobbles and jiggles his belly side to side. He is a very happy chap and I have very rarely seen him upset.
He was originally born in Wales but decided to move him and his family to a new life in New Zealand. They travelled by boat to their new destination and it took them 6 weeks to finally arrive. In his younger days, he used to work as a freezing worker. He was also a well known dart player; he has loads of cool, shiny trophies and medals, more than I’ll ever have, that’s for sure!
Although grandad is a busy man, he always finds time to spend with his family and with himself. He has a big hobby of fishing with his sons (dad and his brothers), he catches huge fish sometimes, nearly as big as a shark! Another hobby of his is to watch rugby that is all he usually watches most of the time, he used to play rugby when he was younger so I guess that’s why he enjoys watching it.
He has a family of 6 (his children and his loving wife Violet). He always puts his family first.
I love my grandad so much; we nearly lost him last year when he had a heart attack. Luckily he survived
He always gives us something every time we see him, whether it’s a tasty treat or just a loving hug. I never want to lose grandad because he is the best grandad in the world. He is my “Grampey Mike”!
